It took about 4 sentences into the “Storyteller” devotional from Illustrated Faith before I wanted to grab my pen and start taking notes. This is a fantastic devotional from Llanet Fernandez (@topknotsandjesus) that has us reflecting on our own story and who the author of our story truly is. I love how Planet shares her heart for God and inspires us to dig deeper into scripture and the role that it plays in our lives. You can check out my process for this entry over on YouTube channel:
The main element for this page is the woven background. I chose to create this weaving pattern to highlight how God weaves our stories together, from the moment we are formed to the moment we will be sitting in His presence. To achieve this effect, I began with adhering a piece of notebook paper to my page using Liquitex Matte Gel medium. The matte gel medium provided a bit more strength to the page which worked out well since I was planning to cut into it. I cut vertical strips into the paper, being careful to not cut too close to the top or bottom. After that, I trimmed 1/2″ pieces of Jane Davenport cardstock. Adhesive was added to one end of each paper strip and then I weaved each piece in and out of the vertical cuts on the Bible page. The weaving becomes a bit more difficult with the last couple of strips, so you have to make sure you are patient working the paper in and out of the pattern. The ending result is so fun!
The large die-cuts that come with this kit make it really easy to make a big impact on the page! I chose two of the large typewriters and added the title “my story is His story” along with the subtitle “A story with purpose”. I chose to take notes in my devotional this time around, so I didn’t feel like I needed to add the notes into my Bible. Illustrated Faith washi tape in rainbow colors was perfect for highlighting the reference verses. The final few touches included washi tape from the kit, a large die-cut tab, and my brand new Studio Calico mega date stamp. So happy with how this page came out and so excited to work through this devotional!
