December Daily© – Let’s Get Started!

December Daily© is a project created by Ali Edwards many years ago that is a daily documenting project for the month of December.  There are no real rules…some people go from December 1st through Christmas, others document from Thanksgiving to Christmas, while others document for all 31 days of December.  The idea is to record the stories and memories, both big and small, for one of the most special times of the year.  I have never participated in this project before, but am super excited to jump in this year! Check out how I decided to set up my album:

I also decided to create videos as I document through the month, sharing my experience as I jump into this new-to-me project.  And, I am quickly learning a few lessons!  Check out this video of my first few pages, and I’ll share what I am learning so far:

December Daily Lessons:

#1 – Scrapping in a new format is UNCOMFORTABLE!  I am so used to the traveler’s notebook size and format that pocket pages in a 6″x8″ style is really throwing me for a loop.

#2 – No need to get crazy!  I have so many supplies gathered that it is a bit overwhelming here at the start of the project.  I keep having a conflict between wanting to use all of the things while also wanting to hoard some of the most beautiful supplies for the whole month.  I’m trying not to second guess myself or over think my pages too much.  Simple is beautiful and allows the pictures and the stories to really stand out.

#3 – I’m allowed to change my mind.  I am already not in love with my “intentions” page.  So, I may redo it.  And that’s okay!  If I have a bunch of supplies left at the end of the month, I may go back and do that page again, or add more embellishments to different pages.  This project is supposed to be fun, so it’s okay to change things up!

#4 – Done is better than perfect.  Y’all – this is a month long project.  It is inevitable that at some point this month I will get behind.  Instead of over-thinking it and getting frustrated that my “creative flow” wasn’t here the first couple of days, I am just going to push through.  Done is better than perfect, meaning that stories written down are better than beautiful pages that remain forever in my head.  So, I am not going to fret when it doesn’t come easily, but I am still going to work a little every day!

I will definitely keep sharing my projects and lessons that I am picking up as I work through December Daily this year.  Have you done December Daily before?  What tips or tricks do you have for me?  Let me know in the comments below!

Keep it creative,
