Illustrated Faith 20/20 – Belief is Your Ticket!

img_8639-1It’s a new year, the kids are back in school (yay!), and I am ready to jump back into journaling with both feet.  Sometimes, it is nice to take a break from creative projects, even ones that you love.  That is exactly what I did over the holidays!  I scaled back the crafting and focused on my family!  I recharged, renewed, and rested up for a big push in 2020.  Now that I am ready to jump back into journaling, I decided to do a page that was kind of “back to the basics” for me.  No fancy techniques and nothing too complicated…check out the video here:

This month, I am working through the Illustrated Faith devotional written by Tiffani Watkins, a talented singer and songwriter with a big heart for Jesus.  Her heartfelt writing combined with gorgeous artwork from Shawna Clingerman made for a devotional that felt very approachable and inspiring for the new year.  For this first week, one of the prompts had us looking at Matthew 21:21-22:

“Jesus answered them, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you tell this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done.  And if you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

img_8644In this passage, Jesus is pointing out to the disciples the true power of faith.  True faith can do anything, because God can do anything!  I find myself limiting the power of my faith, and therefore limiting God.  I tend to think I am only one woman, one prayer.  What good can that do when God has so many prayers to listen to?  Well, it can be everything!  We have tremendous power within us, because we walk through this world with the Holy Spirit within us!  Through faith all things are possible, because God can do ALL THINGS!

This page is relatively simple.  I began with a repetitive stamping technique, using one of the smaller scale stamps included in the kit.  I love that there are small stamps this month!  These are so useful for so many projects, from planners to bibles!  I used the stamps to create a background where I nestled a cluster of tickets that were included as ephemera pieces in the kit.  The colors are so fresh and new for January!  I also chose to layer in some printable images on clear sticker paper.  This adds some more depth without adding a lot of bulk to your Bible.

img_8645For the title, I grabbed some old school Bella Blvd./Illustrated Faith alpha stickers.  Am I the only one with these left in their stash?!?  The colors still match up really nicely, so this was a wonderful chance to use some more of them up!  The title “Belief is Your Ticket” reminds me that by believing, I will be invited to see the amazing work that God can do.  What an amazing invitation!

img_8648The rest of the page came together with some stamping using the wonky crosses in the kit and a few splatters of fuschia Dylusions shimmer spray.  Again, nothing complicated, but just enough “messy” to really feel like one of my pages!  Have you had a chance to get back into a journaling routine after the holidays?  Any Bible journaling or crafting goals for the new year?  Let me know in the comments below!

Keep it creative,

I'm a mom of 3 who loves all things creative! My current passion is bible journaling, a creative outlet that has really shaped my faith journey. I'm also excited about diving into some memory-keeping projects and dabbling in a bit of art journaling.
