Mixed Media Memory Keeping

I am attempting to keep my memory keeping pretty simple this summer. I am documenting less pictures, focusing on getting down the highlights of the summer. I am also keeping my memory keeping pages in a disc style system that is mixed up with my Crafty Club Playbook from The Reset Girl. I am still already behind (I feel like that is what always happens!), but I am enjoying the simplicity!

I primarily used the “Katherine” kit from Felicity Jane for this mixed media page. The colors are bright and vibrant for the summer, which is perfect! Playing with mixed media in your memory keeping is all about layering and playing with color! I began this page by prepping the patterned paper with white gesso, letting it dry thoroughly, and then using Distress Oxide inks as watercolors. I played with the inks, let them run and blend, and then used that as the base for where my pictures would be located.

One thing to remember about mixed media is that it always looks like a hot mess before it comes together. Once I put the pictures in place and played with the placement of the various paper pieces, it really came together nicely. I was also able to use several of the puffy stickers that came with the kit to add a bit of dimension. This particular page will not be in any sort of page protector, so the dimension is a really nice touch.

How’s your summer memory keeping going? Are you keeping up or leaving until the fall to document? I’d love to hear your plan in the comments below!

Keep it creative,
