“Who Is God?” Bible Journal Process

The book of Psalms is such a great book for diving into the character of God. There are all kinds of Psalms, some that celebrate His majesty and others that cry out to him for help. Some where the author is in peril, others where the author has achieved amazing things. Woven throughout is hope and faith in God, the amazing Creator! I am thoroughly excited to be diving into By the Well 4 God’s new devotional, “Psalms – Making It Personal” this week!

For this study, I am journaling in the Illuminated Scripture Journal, specifically the Psalms journal. It is an interleaved journal, so there is plenty of room to create art and write prayers. Plus, with so much white space, I am enjoying getting to try a few new techniques! For this particular entry, I did a bit of ink blending and clustering of pieces.

The base of the page is created with a new blending brush tool and the Stormy Sky Distress Oxide ink. I was also able to incorporate the musical stencil that BTW4G just released. It is such a cool stencil, because the pattern repeats, so even though it is a small stencil, it easily fills a whole page. The new blending brushes were amazing. They created a very soft background to build the rest of my page on.

This particular devotional urges you to “make it personal” by writing your very own Psalm and even gives examples of literary techniques that are used throughout the Psalms. I typed the first lines of my own writing onto one of the journaling cards and nestled it amongst a few die cut pieces and some ribbon that was included in the kit. Clustering these pieces together really brings attention to the journaling card! I wrapped up the page with a few paint splatters to “messy” it up a bit more, and it was done!

Do you have a favorite Psalm? Maybe one that you have memorized? I’d love to hear it in the comments below!

Keep it creative,
