Art Journal Layers – Stenciling

A few weeks ago, I sat down to work on an art journal video and felt completely uninspired to create a whole page. The amount of creative energy it takes for me to create an art journal page is a lot, and with everything going on in this season of life, I just didn’t feel like I had it in me. But, what I did discover was that playing with supplies and techniques and just focusing on the backgrounds was super energizing for me. I loved working in my art journal without a specific end goal in mind! Here is the video I created in that first session:

Once I had completed those background pages, I knew that it would be a fun idea to continue to work on those specific pages in more of a “batch” format. So, I decided over my next few journaling sessions, I would focus on different elements of my typical art journaling pages. This week I decided to go with stenciling and additional layers to each of my pages!

It was definitely a challenge to stick to just the stencils (and stencil masks) and stop there. It kind of feels like these pages were left on a cliff-hanger, and I have NO idea what direction they are going to take when I come back to add another layer. But, that is part of the fun in building your art journal pages in this different way!

Keep it creative,

I'm a mom of 3 who loves all things creative! My current passion is bible journaling, a creative outlet that has really shaped my faith journey. I'm also excited about diving into some memory-keeping projects and dabbling in a bit of art journaling.
