“Heart At Rest” Journal Set-Up

It’s a new month which means a new devotional kit from By The Well 4 God. And, like so many other kits, the timing of this theme is absolutely perfect. As the frenzy of fall activities really sets in with the holidays on the horizon, what better idea to focus on than the peace and rest we can find in God? I am so excited to work through this kit, and this month I’m trying something new for the creative side. Check out my set-up process over on YouTube:

Bible journaling is amazing and has made a huge impact on my faith walk. But, in order to keep the creative side of journaling fresh, I do like to change up the way I approach each devotional. This month the plan is to journal outside of the Bible!

For the first time ever, I actually cut into the devotional booklet! I decided that instead of working in a Traveler’s Notebook, I would try a disc system. Simple enough to do, but super intimidating to cut into the devotional. Luckily, everything went as planned so after I cut the devotional in half and punched holes, I attached Happy Planner discs to put it back together. Then the embellishing began!

When I received the devotional, I read straight through the content and chose one word that encompassed each day. The plan is to focus on each word for a day or two during the month. To highlight the word, I created inserts using my Silhouette Cameo and scrapbook paper I had on hand. The beauty of the disc system is that it is really easy to insert pages and also to take them out. The back of each of my word inserts is the perfect place to journal and write down prayers!

The last addition to my devotional booklet was watercolor paper. I added a sheet of blank watercolor paper for every day of the devotional. My personal creative goal is to put an emphasis on watercolor this month, so I figured watercolor paper would be a nice change up for me, as opposed to thinner Bible paper.

Do you ever change up the way you approach a devotional? Any fun ideas you would like to share? Let me know in the comments below!

Keep it creative,
